Firebug Page Speed Warning

Let me start off by saying that I am no fan of FireFox, I know a lot of web geeks will disagree with me but this is my blog and comments are disabled so live with it.

Knowing that I don’t like FireFox a friend of mine is constantly telling me how awesome it is, one thing he specifically pointed out was the Firebug speed analysis. I had used Firebug in the past and was actually impressed with it so I decided to give this a shot.

As much as it pains me to admit it, this software is a homerun. The speed analysis is simple (for the most part) and really helps create a faster loading website. The aspect I enjoy most is that it will actually render new optimized images or compressed javascript files, a huge time saver.

So the warning? Beware the optimized CSS.

If you have customized a WordPress theme before you will be familiar with this chunk at the top of the CSS file:

Theme Name: WordPress Default
Theme URI: …… etc.

This area contains the author information as well as tags (if you are submitting to the wordpress theme library) for searching for your theme. If you optimize the CSS file comments are removed and so this area that contains the credit and URLs for your theme would be removed as well. Not really the end of the world unless you are distributing your theme but something that you should keep in mind.

More info and tips on the page speed plugin as I test it out.
